Make up! Yay or Nay?

Do you wear make up? And if so, why?

For some reason (I think) people like to make this out to be such a deep conversation.

I don’t know if it’s a small-town mentality (where I am) or if it is something that comes up everywhere.

As a person who is not afraid to explore the deepest depths of the human psyche – and who’s kids tell her often to not dive that deep, I find it quite boring!

Yes, I know some people really might have psychological reason why they use it – but then we all know the make-up is just a band aid for the real issue. But are we then able to judge that as non-professionals? I don’t know hey- I just don’t think so.

My hope will always be that if someone is aware of a debilitating emotion they experience strongly – that they would seek out someone qualified to discuss it with and hopefully find a way to overcome it, because beauty does come from within.

It is such an irritation when the judgement comes from men! If you, as a man do not like make up, keep that in mind when selecting girlfriends or wives. Then ignore the rest of the woman that do- I am sure they’d appreciate that. I know I do! You cannot like everything and everyone in the world, but you can let them live their lives.

To me it’s right up there with having an opinion on a vagina as a man – really!

Ridiculous at best!

Everything has beauty but not everyone see it – Confucius

Learn to say, I don’t know enough, or I have no experience on the subject matter or it’s none of my business and let others do their thing.

I’ve seen the videos where woman start off looking one way and then applying the makeup and looking like an entirely different person – and I find that fascinating. I feel like that requires some serious skill.

And I get that in today’s day and age, they also maybe show how people catfish others. Unfortunate! to say the least!

But hey, most of us, are just doing it because we love it! And we very much look the same with it or without it! Lol

In many cases, it is also non makeup wearing woman passing judgement on the ones that do. We see you sis!

What is the concern? You don’t know how? You can’t be bothered? You just don’t like it? It’s just not for you?

Cool!

Really!

That is totally your prerogative!

You do you – and let others do them!

They say daughters learn from their mothers and that would make me no different- right!

Except my mother never used make up in her life, not even a little foundation, but when I became a young woman, I decided that I liked it- for myself.

And I really do! I just simply enjoy it!

No dark reasons behind it – and thank God I am wise enough to know that whatever wounding I might have- make -up; is most definitely not the remedy for it.

I met a little girl once, a toddler really, and she just loved my make up. She would want to sit as close to me as possible and almost touch my eyeshadow with her little finger as she admired it all. It is crazy to think that she might not even like it when she’s all grown up- or that, that love and curiosity might grow!

My own daughter never admired it so openly, but she loves it so much now- the same way she loves the days she goes outside with no make up at all.

All to say, we do what makes us happy and of course we are not hurting anyone in the process.

I personally have come a long way with make-up. It’s fun to think back and compare products to see how much things have just generally changed and or improved. And like with everything else, we always learn and evolve and what worked then might not work now etc.

I will never forget this one make up fail moment of mine, many many years ago around 1995- ish 

I filled in my eyebrows then already- and this one morning I was probably rushed, and I forgot to brush my eyebrows after applying the eyebrow pencil- so of course I looked crazy! But nobody said anything- but later that morning at work, my then Supervisor (a guy) struggled so much to tell me my eyebrows looked crazy. He was a sweet soft-spoken guy- he struggled so much! He pointed to his own eyebrows, and he said maybe I should go look in the mirror because he thinks I maybe put too much stuff of my eyebrows today. I went to the bathroom, laughing all the way because he was just so uncomfortable!  and I was shocked to see my face! I laughed so hard it was difficult to hold still and fix it. I had left the house like that and travelled all the way to work and saw so many people on the way too!

Wow! Wow! Wow! So very funny!

Now of course we have lash extensions and eyebrow laminating and so so much more!

With me having such a sensitive skin, I have also had my share of misses. Some products are just too harsh for certain skin types unfortunately- I will not name any here now. The point is though, you just find the right products for you.

I have all kinds of makeup, less expensive brands and more expensive brands and ones I like but haven’t yet been able to add them to my collection.

I have my all-time favourites- the brands I build everything else around. For me that’s Revlon –a drugstore brand- it’s basically the brand I grew up with.

I of course  have many other brands like, Maybelinne, Essence, Palladio, Revolution, NYX, Benefit, LA Girl, Mac, Fenty, Catrice, Clinique etc.

Then there’s the make up remover products.

My go to is Garnier Micellar water or the oil infused one. A favourite is also the Clinique – take the day off.

That is just to name a few.

Right now, Fenty is it for me! I love love the make up!

My daughter teases me sometimes with my technique on certain things, but I say, do it the way that works for you, you really don’t have to be doing things that just feels unnatural to you- and it takes the fun out of it!

We’ll talk more about what new brands and shades I’m exploring as we go along

Maybe you can share your favourites with me- I do love learning new things and exploring new brands

So, it is a definite Yay for me!

What about you?
