Decluttering the home and changing décor! And/Or just seasonal sprucing up!

Do you feel a difference in the air as the seasons change? Or does everything feel pretty much the same? And what does it mean to you?

Of course there’s always definite tell tail signs- shorter days, longer nights and vice versa. A change in our wardrobes or just the general atmosphere as we move from summer to winter each year.

How does this all relate to your home? Do you have seasonal rituals? Or not?

Do you make seasonal changes to your home? Or do you just make changes when you feel like it’s time for a change- or when there is an actual budget for it?

We rent a three-bedroom house, so there isn’t anything I can do about the the fixed things in the house of course, so I look at what I can do.

I tend to have fun with seasonal changes. It has actually become such a norm with me, I think I’ll do that always, no matter where we live.

It does mean that you need a little extra storage space for when the rugs are pulled up, the blankets and throws are packed away- but it is a lot of fun and it really does make such a big difference in your house.

It is so refreshing! just to look at everything like it’s all new again.

It changes the general atmosphere of the house as well. I’ve even noticed how it energizes the people in the home as well.

In winter I like to use warmer colours, to create a more cosy look and feel-  so I definitely have winter bedding and summer bedding. Wintertime you bring out all the rugs and throws. Even the colour schemes of scatter cushions changes with the seasons.

I think with practice you figure out the most cost-effective ways of doing it- you even figure out ways to minimize the need for storage.

You opt for scatter cushion cases instead of having to change out and store actual cushions.

You look at your colour schemes – and use base colours that can thread through everything. So, there are ways and means- always!

Woman (not limited to) are so good at dabbling in all sorts of things, and interior decorating is definitely just another one of them.

Spring cleaning is so important to me.

And it really is a good idea to do at least once or twice a year.

I did it recently, after not having done it for a few years, and it was so hectic!

I have a very obsessive nature, so when I sink my teeth into one thing – I tend to focus on that one thing – intensely!

So for the last couple of years, I really did not care about the house. I was busy! Taking care of my mental and emotional state rather- and that had all my attention!

When I finally felt up to it again, I found that so much needed to go.

So, this time around I actually went through the entire house and looked at everything!

From my own wardrobes to the linen cupboards, to the kitchen cupboards and everything in between.

Turned out to be quite the project, but I just had to remind myself that we haven’t done this in years, so it was time.

Of course you end up spending quite a bit of money, because you are changing the bedding and the curtains and all the accessories that go with that. It runs into bathroom mats and towels – because somehow everything needs to be coordinated.

My children are grown, so they just get stuck into their own cupboards to see what has to go. And it’s nice when everyone is involved!

It Just provides a little extra motivation to get it done.

And as you get rid of things that you know for sure, you definitely don’t want or need anymore, you also realize what you would like to replace it with.

So, in the kitchen, I upgraded some appliances and this time around I even threw out all (or most) of our crockery. Yes, I threw out all our plates and bowls etcetera.

It’s also naturally a lot of fun, because I definitely had fun shopping for new kitchen ware.

I love to make cooking content for my social media platforms, so I love buying beautiful crockery. I just have to stop myself from over doing it, because every time I am in the shops there’s another beautiful set- and of course I only have space for so many things.

And like I said, you can take a good look and see what exactly is lacking. For me right now, I can see that I need serve ware, like serving bowls, platters and so on. I already bought some, but I don’t think it’s complete as is.

I am a very detail-oriented person, so I think of all the little things, from table cloths, to placemats and coasters and even napkin rings.

Lazy Susans, to salad bowls and dipping bowls. Of course, not to forget the glasses and cups that will compliment all the other crockery.

And then there’s a good vase! I love having fresh flowers in the house, and I’ve already fallen into a pattern of which vase goes where.

One thing I also want to look into is Planters. I have a few indoor plants- and while they are obviously already potted, I would like to look at sets, so that the entire look is more uniform.

So, I guess for me, Spring cleaning (regardless of the actual season) or decluttering, or just sprucing up your home is something that should be done at least twice a year, but if you have left it for too long, it can become a huge task

And maybe also more expensive – but if you haven’t done it for a few years, maybe it’s just time and worth it!

No wait, it definitely is!

Of course we don’t have to wait for a big spring cleaning, we can also just stay on top of things, but to be honest, that is maybe just not as easy as it sounds.

I know what I still need now, or would maybe just even just like to have, so I will be adding and changing as I go along

I’ll definitely share with you, maybe you can tell me what you’re up to.

I would love that!
