Every second person will probably tell you: I love travelling or I would love to travel, or I wish I could travel more. I think there’s just something in all of us that subtlety encourages us to explore, to see what’s beyond our own small circle.
As a child I was fortunate in that we went on enough road trips, and that included the annual December holidays to Mossel Bay. I am talking about Diaz in the 80’s! What an amazing experience!
Those days one could zip up your tent and spend hours at the beach and find everything perfectly in order upon return. All of that has completely changed now, but oh boy was it awesome then!
We would meet people from all over south Africa and for that holiday we would become like family -and we would enjoy every interaction with all the people around and we couldn’t even wait for the next year – and do it again!

Growing up we explored this beautiful country. There are certain tourist attractions and landmarks that everybody always made a point of visiting.
A few that comes to mind would be the Kango Caves, the Crocodile farm, the Ostrich farm, Table Mountain, Seal Island, Addo Elephant park to name only a few. Then there’s the relatives that live in other provinces that we would visit now and then.
So, it really makes me happy to think that I was exposed to travelling from a young age.
Of course, so much has changed now.
Those days it was padkos – now its Mugg & Bean on the go!
But travelling is still so much fun and so very necessary I would say
Last year my husband and I took a road trip to Knysna. It was the last weekend of the annual Oyster festival- and we really just felt like a short little get away.
Just the two of us!
Travelling – it leaves you speechless, and then turns you into a story teller – Ibn Battuta
We booked at the Knysna Quays Protea Hotel- and we really enjoyed our stay there. It is a really lovely hotel and of course it has the perfect location.
The Knysna waterfront!
A beautiful view from every window!
It was also walking distance to where the Oyster festival was held. That was fantastic. I did so much walking there, something I never even do at home lol.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the festival.
Yes, that’s me exposing myself and also admitting that I really have been such a home body of late.
It was such a short trip, but it was really just so enjoyable- and we were blessed with absolutely stunning weather as well.
I love Hotels! If I could, I would always choose to book there.

I would only book self-catering if I had no other option.
I’m sorry, but at home I cook, so when I have a holiday from home (long or short) I want to just sit down and eat, I really don’t want to do anything – and yes, that includes making the bed!
No thank you for me- I just want to relax and enjoy!
Really just soak up the entire experience and explore- see as much of the place as possible.
The Hotel is great!
I loved our room, and the staff were all so very friendly and helpful. We booked breakfast included, and it was really just fantastic. Even at the buffet breakfast the staff really went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed.
They do not serve lunch and Dinner- but I completely understand why not. They encourage guests to go outside and enjoy and explore the waterfront.
There are quite a few restaurants around.
The Saturday afternoon we enjoyed lunch at one of them, sitting on the balcony, with a great view of the Knysna river.
It was so festive!
Blessed are the curious for they shall have adventures – Lovely Drachman
We enjoyed it so much and it was lovely seeing how others did too.
It was a bit cooler the evening, so we dined inside, at another highly recommended restaurant there – but it was still wonderful!
Really Good Seafood!
And still a great view!
The Sunday morning, we woke up and laid in bed a bit. We had such a good laugh because, we were just amazed at how well we slept and how we wished we could stay another day.
We couldn’t of course because hubby had to go to work the next day!
What is it about hotel beds and bedding!
We haven’t travelled as much as we maybe would’ve liked over the last couple of years- but I definitely want to get back into the swing of things.
I always end up feeling like I want to stay longer – but the best part of travelling for me will always be coming home again and having had an experience
Of course, there are many places I would love to visit – and I will!
I haven’t even travelled internationally yet. So, there’s so much to look forward to.
My ultimate dream vacation is a seven-night stay in Mauritius! That would be a dream come true for me.
Then there’s the trips you’ve already been on- and will never forget.
Your favourite memories of trips past.
One I remember fondly was a weekend at Tsitsikamma Lodge & Spa Hotel.
That was an amazing weekend!
We crammed so much into that weekend. From zipline advetures at Tsitsikamma Falls, to an entire morning at the Spa to a very south African braai themed Saturday evening.
It was an amazing experience and stay!

And that’s the thing about travelling, we will always have the memories.
Another fond memory is when I booked a weekend away for us to Mossel Bay – and when we got there, we found that the Hotel was actually nestled right in the community.
My son (a young boy at the time) said: oh, my goodness!
Are you sure we’re in the right place- we had such a laugh! And it turned out to be a fantastic weekend!
We also loved travelling to East London when the kids were younger. We would stay at the Hemingways Hotel.
We would check in and park our car on the Friday and we would only get back into it on Sunday when we leave. We would spend our time at the hotel and the attached mall the entire weekend.
Such fond memories!
We have an upcoming trip to look forward to now to Cape St Francis Resort for a weekend getaway. Self-catering, but at least there’s a few restaurants.
It really is just about the change of scenery and the experience of the destination
and then coming home
and deciding on where to next!
I’m excited!
So many plans!
I will always come back here and tell you about it!
Xo
